Nudes, 1978

20 gelatin silver prints
8” x 10”; edition of 7

The Nudes were an early formal exploration. The images focused not so much on the nude per se, but, rather, on gesture in terms of the positioning of the body or parts of it –e.g. the out-thrust foot or up-thrust knees. Sometimes there was a focus on lines as gestural elements as in the “Creases” suite. The series was also an exploration of how different kinds of light can affect surface and texture, creating a sense of volume and vibrancy in those images with chiaroscuro, and a feeling of marmoreal stillness in the images with even lighting.
