In Full Circle I worked exclusively with a large animal skull that had pronounced eye sockets and beautiful, elongated nasal bones with oval spaces between them. I placed the skull in roughly the same profile position and at the same angle in each image, emphasizing the empty eye socket by maximizing the light coming through it, then juxtaposing it with black circular forms. When I started this series, I had become increasingly attracted to the circular form, partly because of its shape, and partly because of the different emotions associated with its symbolism: here, there seems to be a confluence between the light and dark circles, thus portraying them as symbols of oneness and harmony – acceptance of life’s “full circle.”
